In the county center Åfjord lives about 1,200 inhabitants.

Åfjord have 2 of the country's best salmon rivers, Stordal River and Norddal River, which both flows through the center.

There are over 1,000 lakes / water with fish in the county.

Åfjord highest point is Finnvollheia, 676 ft.

Stokkøybrua - with the longest bridgespan in South Trøndelag - was opened in December 2000. Length: 525 m.

In 1995, Åfjord got a price for the design of Årnes center, where the boat and the tiller is a central idea behind the design of the square.
